The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended an Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO) posted with the Pay and Accounts Office (PAO) of the Border Security Force (BSF) in New Delhi for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a complainant in exchange for clearing a bill.

The central probe agency registered a case on Friday against the accused AAO and other unidentified persons.

It was alleged that the AAO had initially demanded a bribe of around ₹2 lakh—amounting to 15 to 20 per cent of the complainant’s total pending bill—for clearing his pay and arrears.

Following negotiations, the accused AAO and the unidentified individuals allegedly agreed to accept ₹2 lakh from the complainant.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on Friday and caught the AAO red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹40,000 from the complainant.

The accused was apprehended on the spot, officials said. Further investigation is underway, the agency added.
