Burglars drill hole in shop’s ceiling; decamp with 3kg gold

Unidentified persons drilled a hole through the ceiling of a pawn shop here and decamped with about three kg of gold, besides cash, police said today.

Police have released CCTV footage of the suspects, where two persons are seen carrying some bags, believed to be the valuables stolen from the pawn shop yesterday.

According to police, the owner of the shop, located at Kolathur here, went home for lunch after locking it up and returned after about three hours, only to find a hole in the ceiling and gold missing.

The culprits are suspected to have entered through the hole, police said, adding, about three kg of gold, some silver items and Rs one lakh in cash were missing from the shop.

Police said a search is on for the burglars.
