To address mobile coverage issues Telecom service provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched ‘WINGS’, an internet telephony service in Himachal Pradesh.

BSNL Himachal Circle Chief General Manager US Pandey said that the service is first of its kind telephony service in the country. The service will be rolled out from 1 August that would allow the users to make and receive voice and video calls over internet through their landlines or internet connection on a one-time prepaid fee of Rs 1,099 which will be valid for a year, he added.

This initiative will prove to be a boon to the users in areas that lack mobile coverage, said Pandey.

“The service will enable consumers to make a call without SIM. It will employ 10 digit mobile numbering scheme with the help of IP-specific access network for which the users will need a smart phone and will have to install a software which works as a SIP client after it is connected to the internet,” he said.
