The Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sakshi Maharaj landed himself in a controversy after inaugurating a nightclub in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow.

The major embarrassment came for the BJP on Sunday when the MP inaugurated the nightclub — ‘Let’s Meet’ — in Aliganj area.

According to a report in the Times of India, the BJP leader has claimed that he was asked by a party functionary to attend the event on the pretext that it was a ‘restaurant’. Sakshi Maharaj has, reportedly, complained to BJP state president Mahendra Nath Pandey, seeking action against the party worker.

Sakshi Maharaj has claimed that former UP state president Rajjan Singh, who urged him to inaugurate the ‘club’, has told him that it was a restaurant owned by his son-in-law, the TOI report added.

Sakshi’s attendance at the event was bound to leave many eyebrows raised as he had been vocal against the western culture.

This is not for the first time that the BJP MP courted a controversy. Recently, Sakshi Maharaj, reportedly, had said that couples hugging or embracing in a “vulgar” manner at public places should be jailed.
