The BJP will resist any attempt to terrorise the voters of Mahestala Assembly constituency during 28 May bypoll, party’s state president Dilip Ghosh said on Friday.

He said the Trinamul Congress (TMC) had resorted to terror tactic during the panchayat elections and the BJP successfully resisted it in some cases. If similar attempts are made during Mahestala bypoll, party supporters will give a befitting reply.

Mr Ghosh said that the BJP workers this time will fight against TMC-backed goons to secure victory in the Mahestala bypoll. “We are expecting that the state BJP will get number one position in the Mahestala Assembly as our party secured victory in several panchayat areas despite TMC-backed miscreants unleashing violence on our party supporters,” said Mr Ghosh.

Mr Ghosh is hopeful that BJP will launch the campaign for upcoming Lok Sabha poll through its victory in Mahestala Assembly constituency bypoll as the BJP considers that its victory will boost up the Lok Sabha campaign for the party.

“If this time TMC thinks that they will unleash a reign of terror and try to scare voters and capture booths and cast proxy votes then their dream will be shattered as the BJP will fight with its best effort to win in this Assembly constituency,” he said.

Mr Ghosh criticised chief minister Mamata Banerjee over distribution of alleged damaged rice by the government at Rs 2 per kilogram for “vested political interests.”

“TMC always prefers to do cheap politics rather than taking proper initiative to help poor people. Even TMC’s stalwart leaders are involved in carcass meat cases but the party is doing nothing to unearth their scam. Unhygienic carcass meat collected directly from animal graveyards were unhesitatingly catered to the people in several hotels and restaurants under the nose of the TMC-led administration,” he said.

The BJP earlier demanded paramilitary forces for the Maheshtala bypoll and the transfer of the Officer-in-Charge(OC) of Maheshtala, who, the party alleged, is acting as Trinamul Congress (TMC) agent.

The state BJP had submitted a memorandum to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer(CEO), West Bengal demanding immediate transfer of the OC of the Maheshtala because of his alleged biased attitude towards the ruling party and “rude behaviour with the opposition members.”

The Maheshtala Assembly seat in South 24 Parganas district fell vacant after the death of its two-time representative, TMC’s Kasturi Das, in February this year. The seat had been a CPI-M bastion till 2011 when it lost to the TMC.
