With GST reforms set to roll out across India on Monday, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda and the party’s Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva met shopkeepers in Amar Colony and discussed the changes with them over tea.
Cloth merchants, office-bearers of pharmaceutical traders’ associations, and other business owners from Amar Colony congratulated the government and expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the much-awaited taxation reforms.
Also present on the occasion were BJP national media head and Member of Parliament Anil Baluni, local MLA Neeraj Basoya, municipal councillors Sharad Kapoor and Rajpal, party spokespersons Zafar Islam and Yasir Jilani, along with other party workers and shopkeepers.
Speaking to the media after the interaction, Nadda said, “Today I met shopkeepers in New Delhi and conveyed the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I congratulated them on the implementation of the Next Generation GST Reform.”
He added that shopkeepers had welcomed the Prime Minister’s decision and acknowledged the benefits it would bring. Nadda urged them to ensure that the tax relief reaches consumers and to promote indigenous products in their stores.
“The kind of relief offered in GST will benefit crores of consumers, who are already expressing their appreciation for these reforms,” he said. With the festive season of Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath Puja, and Dhanteras approaching, people would shop more and enjoy lower prices. “Strengthening India’s economy and economic policies in this way is what we must continue to strive for,” he added.
Sachdeva noted that the reforms had visibly lifted the mood among shopkeepers. “Not only the shopkeepers but also consumers appeared quite pleased, as essential festive items have now become cheaper,” he said.
Calling the reforms a “Savings Festival” for Delhiites even before the festive season begins, Sachdeva appealed to people to support indigenous products and contribute to India’s journey towards self-reliance by purchasing Made in India goods.
