Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Thursday accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders of misusing public funds allocated for mobile phone purchases.
He alleged that while former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal bought mobile phones costing four times the approved budget, his minister, Atishi Marlena also purchased phones exceeding her eligibility — and reportedly did not return them to the General Administration Department (GAD) upon leaving their positions.
He further elaborated that according to rules, the Chief Minister is entitled to purchase a mobile phone worth Rs 50,000 per term — a total of Rs 1,00,000 for two terms.
However, Kapoor accused Kejriwal of purchasing four phones in 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2022 costing nearly Rs 453000 during his two terms from 2015 to 2025.
Kapoor also accused the Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia of going a step forward in violating his privileges, by purchasing phones worth 5.24 lakh rupees, despite the allowed budget of Rs 90,000 across two terms. Similar, financial purchase violations were made against Atishi Marlena, who went overboard by an amount of nearly Rs 33000 in cell phone purchases.
