In order to curb the absenteeism by medicos, the Punjab government is set to introduce biometric system in 22 district government hospitals.
The state government’s move came after receiving the various complaints regarding the absence of doctors from Civil Health Centres (CHCs) and Public Health Centres (PHCs). The move was disclosed by the state Health and Family Welfare minister Brahm Mohindra during a Press conference on Thursday. “We have been receiving complaints from the sarpanches of various villages that the doctors had been found missing from duties. The move will help the strengthening of health services in the state,” the minister said. He also rolled out the vision document of health and medical education department. He said that 2,950 sub-centres will be strengthened to wellness centers across the state in the phased manner to cater the health care services to the patients at their doorsteps especially in rural areas.
He said, in the first phase, 240 sub-centres of the districts Fazilka, Pathankot, Patiala are being strengthened as HWCs. He further elaborated that a bridge course for staff nurses through Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is being convened and eight study centres accredited by IGNOU in district hospitals.
