A final project report for full development of the Rourkela Smart City project has been prepared and finalised. This has been done for the project by the Rourkela Smart City Limited (RSCL).

A meeting in this regard was held at Bhubaneswar recently and the final project proposal was accepted. The project was announced four years ago.

Efforts are being made to expedite the implementation and completion of the project which was delayed till now. The final project has taken into consideration different aspects of development. Earlier, tendering was initiated under the master system integrator programme. However, this process of tendering was terminated for several reasons. The construction of roadshas been accepted under Phase-1, at a cost of Rs 22.62 crores. This road roughly four kilometres will stretch from Ambedkar Chak at Uditnagar till Panposh.

Likewise, the Birsa Munda Multi-Purpose, consisting of multi-level car parking and swimming pool will be constructed at a cost of Rs 130 crores. An ultra-modern market complex at Panposh costing Rs. 41.8 crores will come up as well. The existing market complex at the place is in a dilapidated condition.

The DPR of the complex is complete and the tendering will begin soon, informed a source in RMC. Other plans include the construction of a command control centre, conference hall, auditorium and tribal museum at a cost of Rs.88.02 crores at Uditnagar.

Meanwhile, the planning for the smart road, Phase-2, is still on, for which the estimate is Rs 54.5 crores. This stretch from Uditnagar till Birsa Chak. Along with this 13 bus terminus, which is the most modern in nature, will be built at a cost of Rs 187 crores. Besides, projects under different of implementation are nearing completion. These include, six parks at a cost of Rs 5.72 crores, and Biju Pattnaik Indoor Stadium at Panposh at a cost of Rs. 9.62crores.
