Armed robbery in SBI Branch

Armed miscreants conducted a bank heist at noon and escaped with cash from the SBI Branch at Srirampur under Basta police station limits on Thursday.

The police said they had intensified the manhunt to nab the culprits and sealed all the probable exit routes.

The amount of cash stolen is yet to be ascertained. The Inspector –in-charge of Basta police station, Dhaneswar Sahoo said “ They were six and armed. They entered the bank posing as customers and were armed with guns and bombs . Threatening the bank staff and customers available in the period that they committed the crime and fled. The exact amount looted is yet to be known as the bank officials have not informed us about the amount.”

According to eyewitnesses, the miscreants appeared like college students and were speaking in Bengali. They threatened the cashier , manager and other staff as well as customers. Everyone was pushed to a corner while they took cash from the counter and strong room. They locked the staff and customers from outside before speeding away in two hi-end motor bikes. Sources said police were analyzing the CCTV footages of the bank to try and identify the culprits.
