Avalahalli police in Bengaluru have arrested a 22-year-old tractor driver, nearly a month after his 11-month-old daughter died. Police say he threw the infant out of a shed during a fight with his wife.

The incident took place between 2pm and 3pm on June 9 at Kithaganur village in Bidarahalli hobli. The accused, identified as Sekappa, initially told police his daughter died after falling from a cot.

Postmortem report changed everything

Police only moved to arrest Sekappa after the postmortem report came in. The report showed the child’s death was caused by excessive bleeding and respiratory failure, not a fall.

Police received this report on June 22, 2026. Sekappa’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, is still on the run.

An officer explained that Sekappa and Vijayalakshmi, in a fit of rage, allegedly kicked and violently threw the infant to the ground. The officer added that both knew this act could lead to the child’s death.

Police say the killing was intentional

According to police, the investigation pointed toward intentional harm. An officer said the child’s death appears to be the result of deliberate acts, and that the infant was intentionally killed.

Sekappa and Vijayalakshmi have two children together. Police say Vijayalakshmi was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with a neighbour named Nagappa. This relationship reportedly led to frequent arguments between the couple.

Investigators also noted that Vijayalakshmi was not affectionate toward their second child, the daughter who later died.

How the day unfolded

On June 9, around 2pm, Sekappa returned home and asked Vijayalakshmi to serve him food. This request triggered an argument between the two.

As the fight escalated, the infant began crying. Vijayalakshmi allegedly kicked the child in anger. This action enraged Sekappa, who then allegedly assaulted his wife.

The couple continued fighting, and at some point, the infant ended up between them. Sekappa allegedly picked up his daughter and threw her out of the shed.

A short while later, the child was taken to a hospital for treatment. Despite this, she did not survive.
