Bengal’s capital expenses grew 5 times during current fiscal: Mitra

Expenses on infrastructure have increased five times during the current fiscal compared to financial year 2010-11, and the funds were properl utilised due to administrative meetings chaired by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, state finance minister Amit Mitra said on Monday at Nabanna.

Talking to the reporters Mr Mitra said that chief minister is constantly monitoring working of all departments and her administrative meetings helped departments to utilise the funds speedily and properly.

Plan expenditure during the current fiscal has reached Rs 57,778.60 crore from Rs 49,609 crore in last financial year, a growth of 16 per cent. “Our target was a growth of eleven per cent which we have exceeded,” the finance minister said.

Total plan expenditure in 2010-11 fiscal was Rs 11,837 crore, so total plan expenditure in 2017-18 is about five times as compared to 2010-11, Mr Mitra said.

Capital expenditure during the 2017-18 fiscal has reached a record of Rs 19,084 crore from Rs 12,028 crore during 2016-17 financial year, he said, adding that capital expenditure has achieved 59 percent growth during the 2017-18 fiscal.

Total capital expenditure in 2010-11 was Rs 2225 crore, so total capital expenditure in 2017-18 is eight times as compared to financial year 2010-11, Mr Mitra said.

The state government has achieved a significant growth in tax collection, which in 2017-18 has gone up to Rs 52,971 crore, compared to Rs 45,647 crore in 2016-17, Mr Mitra said.

Mr Mitra has divulged the figure following a consultation with Miss Banerjee and he said that it does not violate the model code of conduct.

Finance department allocates funds but departments utilise the funds, which was properly done due to constant monitoring of Miss Banerjee, he said.
