The West Bengal government would, from this year, celebrate the Makar Sankranti day as the Lok Sanskriti Dibas to promote the state’s folk artistes, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday.

“Wishing everyone the best on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. From this year, we will be celebrating this day as Lok Sanskriti Dibas in #Bengal to promote the folk artistes of our State,” Banerjee tweeted.

Makar Sankranti was celebrated on Sunday with lakhs of pilgrims taking the holy dip in the Ganga at the spot where it flows out into the Bay of Bengal.
