Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Saturday said that beat officers on ground are the backbone of policing and should be aware of each and every criminal activity so as to curb crime in their respective areas.

Interacting with beat officers and division officers of the force, the Delhi Police chief said: “All beat officers should patrol with firearms in their beats and spend maximum time in their areas.”

Patnaik also emphasised on the necessity to keep a watch over anti-social elements, bad characters of the area, criminals released on bail and emerging criminals during their patrolling, especially to identify new criminals and update their records on a regular basis.

He said that suspected vehicles, particularly fast moving motorcycles and other vehicles violating traffic rules, should be checked properly.

Besides, he said, the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and all districts police personnel should enforce pre-emptive anti-terror measures such as tenant verification, servant verification, etc.

He also advised the beat officers as well as other police officers of all ranks to be sensitive while dealing with females and senior citizens.

“The CP also stated that a police officer should implement the rule of law firmly and fearlessly. He also told the beat officers to keep drug-addicts, school dropouts and budding criminals in their respective areas under surveillance,” DCP Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said.
