Priyadarshini Mandal, a 55-day old baby was admitted at the Balurghat hospital under treatment from fever.

A doctor instructed her parents to conduct an echocardiography test for their ailing baby. She was taken to a private pathology center at Hospital more yesterday, it is learnt.

“At first, a pathology staff asked me to give my baby a 10 ml liquid medicine. After completion of the test we went back to our house.

However at 11 AM my baby’s limbs started becoming cold. We rushed her to Balurghat hospital and admitted her there.

She looks weak,” said the mother of the baby, Sudeshna Karmakar Mandal.

“Normally for an echocardiogram test a baby is given 2 to 3 ml of medicine for sleep to ensure steadiness while the process is going on. It generally takes two to three hours to come back to normalcy after conducting the test.

However for this baby it took more time. I am not sure about the dosage of the medicine but now the baby is in good health and we have released her from the hospital,” said the pediatrician, Dr Samiran Purakayat.

“I have asked the Deputy CMOH-3 to direct an enquiry over the incident. A detailed report will be submitted within the next two days.

Proper action will be taken if any fault are detected,” said the Chief Medical Officer, Sukumar Dey.
