Alleging misuse of money and power, a group of 234 members of the Fulbari Business Association and Share Protection Committee on Wednesday lodged a complaint at the district administration including the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police and the Sabhadhipati, against the present governing committee and its secretary.

It is learnt that the North Bengal Development Department has allotted Rs 4,60,00000 for the construction of the proposed market place in Fulbari and it had assigned the Fulbari Business Association to execute the work. The present governing committee, which has decided to build 120 rooms for the market place with sheds, failed to specify to whom these rooms will be allotted.

The issue sparked a controversy and 234 of the 400 shareholders have now decided to sit for discussions on Thursday. “The present secretary of the Fulbari Bazaar committee, Prabir Kumar Kandu, is in his post since the past six years.

According to rules, the committee should reshuffle every three years and it is liable to present the account of the previous year after every financial year. However, in the last six years, members of the market committee did not hold a single meeting and are unaware of the activities of the present governing committee,” sources said.

Md Sadek Sarkar, a member of the Business Share Protection Committee, said, “The secretary of the Fulbari Business Association is deliberately violating the rules and is trying to avoid the general members of the association. He has mismanaged the funds for the last six years and is trying to pocket the funds allotted by the North Bengal Development Department.

We want a proper management committee.” “According to a resolution taken up in the last general body meeting, we are continuing with the old board. We failed to arrange for a general annual meeting for the past few years because of some internal reasons.

We have now received an amount from the NBDD to build the market place. A general meeting with all the members of the committee will be held in Fulbari on Friday,” said the secretary of the business governing body, Mr Kandu said.
