Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia strongly condemned the raids carried out by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Delhi PWD Minister Satyendar Jain’s residence on Wednesday.

Reacting to the raid, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: “What does PM Modi want?”

CBI has said that Delhi minister Satyendar Jain has allegedly violated norms in hiring architects for the creative wing of the Public Works Department (PWD).

The agency had registered a preliminary inquiry into the hiring of 24 architects for a creative wing of the PWD through an agency, which reportedly lacked any prior experience, according to CBI officials.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, quoting a report, said NITI Aayog favoured these creative teams. He also claimed that the Centre was using agencies to push pressure on the AAP government.

He said after stringent policies adopted by Satyandar Jain against private hospitals came in public view, CBI raids were ordered against him.

The Aam Aadmi Party is not bothered by such pressure tactics by certain “lobbies”, he said.

In another tweet, Sisodia said the matter was handed over to CBI by former L-G Najeeb Jung before leaving office.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday carried out searches at the residence of Satyendar Jain and five more locations, including residences of PWD officials and other private persons over alleged violation in hiring of creative teams for PWD.

The CBI said the contract documents for hiring 24 people for mohalla clinics and other PWD projects were not done in a transparent manner.

CBI has registered a fresh case against Jain in connection with the alleged violation of norms while hiring creative team for PWD. He is already facing probe in a case pertaining to money laundering.

In August 2017, a disproportionate assets case was registered by the CBI and investigations were also taken up by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

CBI’s raid on Wednesday at Jain’s residence comes a day after the agency closed a probe into his daughter Soumya Jain’s appointment as an adviser to the state government’s project on mohalla clinics.
