Arrogance of power has made CM blind to people’s sentiments, says Pradhan

Dharmendra Pradhan

Arrogance of power has made Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik blind to the sentiments and anger of the people, charged Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while referring to the Kunduli gang rape case, the custodial death in Ainthapali and the manner in which a lady who hurled eggs at a function of the Chief Minister was treated.

Addressing a public meeting at Brahmagiri organised to mark the 54th birth anniversary of late Lulu Mahapatra, a firebrand Congress leader, today, Pradhan said those who stormed in to the house of an officer in the CMO were slapped with attempt to murder cases while recently people who attacked a block development officer were not charged with serious provisions of law.

The lady who hurled eggs at the Chief Minister’s meeting in Bhograi was misbehaved and humiliated after she was caught by the police. Last week a youth died in police custody in Sambalpur district , he noted while reeling out instances of complete collapse of law and order in the state.

Dwelling on the Kunduli gang rape case, Pradhan said the victim alleged she had been gang raped, offered bribe of Rs 90,000 by the DG etc. Instead of dealing with the case the government went on the overdrive suggesting that no rape had taken place, that the girl was mentally unstable etc.

In the process the girl committed suicide, noted Pradhan. All this is nothing but sheer arrogance of power and the latest is the attempt to gag the media as well as the opposition, he remarked. People of Odisha, the women, youth and farmers have all had enough of this 18 year misrule of the BJD government, they are waiting for the general elections to vote the BJD out , he said.
