Alipurduar town to get 4000 toilets

In bid to spread the message of cleanliness among the people and to promote sanitation, the Alipurduar municipality is all set to construct 4000 thousands toilet for families living under the below poverty line.

The decision was taken after the municipality received a fund of Rs 8 cores under the Mission Nirmal Bangla project from the state government. A sum of Rs 11000 is estimated to be spent for building the toilets.

Beneficiaries will have to pay Rs1000 only for the toilets. The Municipal authority will pay the rest 10000 rupees from the fund they received under the mission- Nirmal Bangla.

The fund will help the authority make the town pollution free, municipality authority said. The Alipurduar Municipality Chairman, Ashis Dutta, “We have received the fund and the construction work to build the concrete toilets for the beneficiaries who live under the below poverty line has already started.

We will build 4000 toilets in the town under the Mission Nirmal Bangla Project for which state government had allotted the fund.” “The beneficiaries who live under the below poverty line and who do not have concrete toilets should immediately submit their applications through their respective municipality councillors soon,” added Mr Dutta.

People in the municipality living below the poverty line looked happy with the move. “The initiative will now help us live in a more sanitary and clean environment. We will be applying for the concrete toilets under the Mission Nirmal Bangla project,” said Aloke Sarkar, a resident of ward no-8 in the municipality who lives a life below the poverty line.
