South-East district Police on Sunday said they have arrested an Afghan national for allegedly supplying narcotic substances in the capital.
The police said that they have seized 215.74 grams of charas, a cannabis-based narcotic, from his possession.
According to the police, the operation was launched based on specific information about a person involved in drug peddling in the area.
The suspect was intercepted by a police team and found to be in possession of the contraband. A scooty, allegedly used for the transportation and supply of drugs, was also seized from his possession.
During questioning, the accused was identified as Najib Ahmad, a 40-year-old Afghan national. Police officials stated that Ahmad had been living in the Sant Nagar area of East of Kailash.
A senior police officer confirmed that initial investigations revealed the accused had been residing in India without a valid visa for a significant period. “He had been involved in supplying drugs in certain parts of the city,” the officer added.
The police further said that efforts are underway to trace the source of the narcotics and identify any potential associates involved in the drug network.
