Seemingly settling down in his new role  that came to him in a sudden twist of fortunes in December 2017 polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur was at his best on Monday, as he subtly took a jibe at people who may still not have reconciled to his elevation to the top chair.

With a fair amount of wit in his soft remarks congratulating the Shimla Press club members for having won the inter-state cricket tournament, low-profile Thakur knowingly related it to his own victory.

“No matter how you won, for me you are winners. A victory is still a victory, no matter how. Jai Ram also won and became CM. Many people are still perplexed that how it happened. But it is a reality that Jai Ram is CM now. They  must accept it,” Thakur said with a smile without referring to anyone.

While the audience, the media men at the Shimla Press Club, just laughed it off, the CM’s reference indicated his understanding of common pysche, wherein many people, including those in political quarters and his own party, have still not come to terms with the reality.

Thakur is five time MLA in a row and has remained minister and state BJP president earlier. However, this time, after BJP’s CM candidate, former BJP CM, Prem Kumar Dhumal lost his election, Thakur became high command’s choice for the top chair.

His elevation has changed the equations in BJP, which earlier centred around Dhumal, former BJP CM, Shanta Kumar and lately, Union Health Minister, JP Nadda.

Thakur is supposedly getting support from all the three camps so far. But his rise has not only dashed political aspirations of some people in other BJP camps to a great extent, it is indicative of the beginning of new and younger era in BJP in Himachal.
