The deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia addressed a press conference on Saturday and said that the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, who were recommended by the Election Commission for disqualification, never got a chance to put forward their views. The AAP leader appealed to the President to hear his party’s view as well.

On Friday, the electoral body sent its recommendation to the President Ram Nath Kovind to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs.

“There was no hearing; we were not given a chance to explain our stand. We appeal to the President to hear our view too, MLAs will meet President also,” the AAP leader told media.

Earlier in the day, the party had accused the EC of discrimination saying that it had no right to recommend disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs in ‘Office of Profit’ case as the Delhi High Court had said they are not parliamentary secretaries.

AAP national spokesperson Sanjay Singh addressed media and said, “How could the Election Commission recommend disqualification of the 20 AAP MLA as the Delhi High Court had said they are not Parliamentary Secretaries? In other states, wherever the Parliamentary Secretaries were appointed, they were given the status of minister of state and all facilities were given to them. However, this was not what happened in Delhi, even then discrimination is happening with us.”

The disqualification of the MLAs will lead to the by-polls in Delhi.
