Aam Aadmi Party threatened to march to Parliament on 29 January in protest against sealing drive by BJP-controlled municipal corporations in the Capital.

AAP legislators also planned to meet Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to request change in Delhi’s Master Plan 2021.

The BJP could have protected traders from sealing drive but it turned a blind eye to the sufferings of the community, claimed AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj at a press conference here.

Bharadwaj said both of the conversion charges and Delhi Master Plan 2021were under the purview of the three municipal corporations and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) which was controlled by the Centre.

“If the BJP wants they can easily waive off conversion charges and bring an ordinance to change the Master Plan 2021. But they are doing nothing to help the affected traders,” he said.

Bharadwaj said AAP leaders, including legislators, member of Parliament and MCD councillors, would march to Parliament on Monday ~ the day budget session begins ~ to urge the Central Government to bring an ordinance to put an end to sealing of markets in the national capital.

The party had also written to the LG seeking an appointment regarding sealing of commercial properties and shops by municipal corporations, Bhardwaj said.

He alleged that BJP-ruled municipal corporations were trying to deprive employment opportunities to people by sealing business establishments.
“A large sum of money was collected as conversion and parking charges. The traders have neither received anything in return nor do they have any information about the money collected,” Bharadwaj claimed.
