Six people, including a toddler, lost their lives after a four-storey building collapsed in Northeast Delhi’s Seelampur, leaving several others injured who were trapped under the debris, the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Javed, 23 (M); Abdulla, 15 (M); Zubia, 27 (F); Matloob, 50 (M); Rabia, 46 (F); and a two-year-old child.
The collapsed structure was a ground-plus-three-floor building, a fire officer confirmed.
“Several people have been rushed to the hospital; also, it is feared that more people are trapped under the rubble,” they said.
Adding to it, the fire department mentioned, “We were informed about the situation at around 7:05 am. Responding to it, seven fire tenders were immediately sent to the reported location.”
According to the Delhi Police, they received information about a building collapse in the cited area at 7:04 at the Welcome police station, to which a team was dispatched to the spot.
Senior police officers, along with the fire brigade and other agencies, are present at the site, and the rescue operation is still ongoing by the team.
“The injured persons have been evacuated from the rubble; several have been taken to JPC hospital and one to GTB hospital for medical treatment,” a police officer mentioned.
A The injured individuals were identified as Parvez, 32 (M); Naved, 19 (M); Siza, 21 (F); Deepa, 56 (F); Govind, 60 (M); Ravi Kashyap, 27 (M); Jyoti, 27 (F); and a 14-month-old child.
This comes just a day after a 44-year-old man lost his life after a three-story commercial building collapsed at the Mithai Pul area in Sadar Bazaar in the wee hours of Friday.
The deceased, identified as Manoj Sharma, was an employee at one of the shops located in the cited building.
He was pulled out from under the rubble by the team and was taken to Hindu Rao Hospital for medical treatment, where he was declared brought dead by the attending doctors.
Although the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), whose tunnelling work for the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor is ongoing in the area, announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for Sharma’s family.
