33 held for A’duar clash

Alipurduar police have arrested 33 persons for being allegedly involved in the clash that took place at the Baburhat BDO’s office at Baburhat under the Alipurduar police station on Thursday.

A series of arrests were made till late night on Thursday. Police have produced all the arrested at the court on Friday from where they have been sent to a 5 day jail custody, it is learnt.

Police have booked the arrested persons under a non-bailable section of the IPC alleging damage to government property, attack on government servants and attempt to murder government staffs, it is learnt.

“We have arrested 33 persons for being involved in the case and have produced them at the court on Friday. All the arrested persons were allegedly involved in damaging government property and on the attacks on our police personal,” said Alipurduar Police Super, Avaru Rabindranath.

Notably, a clash between the BJP and TMC activists erupted on Thursday at the Baburhat BDO office situated under Alipurduar police station in the district where 15 persons including the Officer- in-charge of the Baburhat police out post was left injured.

Meanwhile, the BJP claimed that all the arrested persons in yesterday’s case belong to their party and blamed the police of arresting them on the basis of false cases.

“Police have arrested our party men on false allegations. We were beaten up there by the ruling party goons but police did not take any step against them,” said the BJP district President, Ganga Prasad Sharma.
