3 Haryana institutions to participate in World Bank aided project

Haryana government has accorded approval for participation by three leading educational institutions in the World Bank aided project aimed at building capacity and improving performance and academic standards.

An official spokesperson said that Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, and Deen Bhandu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology, Murthal (Sonipat), would participate in the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP Phase-III) of World Bank Project.

He said that each of the institute would get a grant of Rs.7 crore. The selection has been made on the basis of pre-defined eligibility criteria and academic performance.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard has been signed between the Haryana government and the Union Ministry of Human Resources. The Principal Secretary, Haryana Technical Education Department, signed the MoU on behalf of the state government, he added.

The spokesperson further stated that the Central government had approved implementation of TEQIP Phase-III as a Central sector scheme. The project is expected to be completed by March 31, 2020.

These institutions have been selected under TEQIP phase-III through challenge method of selection on the pre-defined eligibility criteria and academic performance. Each of the selected mentor institution from the state would get a grant of Rs Seven Crore. These would act as mentor institutions for providing support to focus state institutions through twining arrangement as well as working for their own development, he added.

The TEQIP commenced in 2003 with World Bank assistance as a long-term programme to be implemented in three phases. The first phase of TEQIP commenced in 2003 and ended on March 31, 2009 covering five institutions while the TEQIP Phase-II commenced on August 6, 2010, covered six institutions in the state.
