The Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a 23-year-old youth wanted in a kidnapping case from Rohini and recovered two pistols and three live cartridges from his possession, the police said.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Shahjad, alias Uvesh, a resident of Mangolpuri. He was arrested late Tuesday night, they said.
“The accused was spotted near G3S Cinema Hall in Rohini around midnight following a tipoff that he was carrying illegal weapons,” a police officer mentioned in his statement.
“He was nabbed, and two pistols, including one loaded with three live cartridges, were recovered from him,” he added.
The police stated that Shahjad is a key member of the Saif-Kaif gang operating in Outer Delhi and had earlier been implicated in an attempted murder case in Prem Nagar.
The accused was also wanted in a case lodged at the Sultanpuri police station related to alleged abduction of a girl.
While questioning, Shahjad admitted to having been working on the directions of gangster Kaif; he carried firearms to extort money from shopkeepers and small vendors.
The officer said that the investigation into this case is ongoing and further details are awaited.
