In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, Delhi Police sent for deportation 23 foreign nationals who were found overstaying in India without valid visas, an official said on Friday.
According to the police, the action, carried out in October this year, was part of ongoing operations by the district police to curb illegal residence and movement of foreign nationals in the area.
“The operations involved multiple police stations, including Bindapur police station, Dabri police station, and Mohan Garden police station. Bindapur police station led the efforts, accounting for 20 of the deportees, while Dabri police station and Mohan Garden police station handled two and one cases, respectively,” said Ankit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka).
The officer continued by saying that the deported individuals were from Nigeria (15), Senegal (4), the Ivory Coast (2), Tanzania (1), and Liberia (1).
“Among those sent for deportation were several adults aged between 25 and 40 years. Notably, the group included two women—one from Tanzania and another from the Ivory Coast,” the DCP mentioned.
The officer also stated that the detainees were apprehended based on intelligence about their illegal stay or roaming in the district.
Following their arrest, the foreign nationals were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which ordered their deportation. They have now been sent to the detention centre prior to repatriation.
The Dwarka District Police emphasised that such operations will continue to ensure that illegally staying foreign nationals do not exploit local resources or compromise public safety.
