A 22-year-old woman from Dehradun was allegedly raped here by three men, including an auto rickshaw driver,  the Chandigarh police said on Saturday.
The police said that a case was registered on the complaint of the victim and investigations were underway.
After registering a case on the complaint of the victim, the police on Saturday said it was looking for CCTV footage from nearby locations around the road which was used by the rickshaw in which the woman was allegedly raped.
The police also said, the medical examination of the woman was also conducted.
“We are in process to collect the CCTV footage of sector 42 based patrol pump where the auto rickshaw is said to have got filled the fuel. We are also identifying location of the mobile phone of the victim which was not with her. Sketches of the accused are being made to investigate the matter,” said a police officer.
On 17 November, the  woman had taken an auto rickshaw in the evening after attending her stenography class from sector 37 here, said the police.
Two other men were already sitting in the auto, as per a complaint filed by the woman, the police said.
The auto rickshaw driver allegedly drove her to an isolated place in Sector 53, instead of taking her to Mohali where she had been staying as a paying guest, they said.
After allegedly raping her, the men dumped the victim in Sector 53.
Two men, who were crossing nearby, spotted her and informed the police.
Meanwhile, former Chandigarh parliamentarian and senior Congress leader, Pawan Kumar Bansal said it is high time to strengthen police patrolling and take appropriate measures to restore the lost faith of women and public at large in Chandigarh’s safety.
He said there was a time when Chandigarh was considered to be one of the safest cities in India for women.
“Yesterday’s  (Friday) gang rape of a student coming back to her paying guest from a coaching institute is deeply distressing and once again, raises questions about women’s safety in Chandigarh,” the leader said.
