18-year-old girl ends life in Bengaluru; family alleges harassment

Meghana, an 18-year-old first-year civil engineering student, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday in her house at Rajarajeshwari Nagar of Bengaluru. The girl used to study in Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering in Bengaluru.

While the reason behind the suicide is not known yet, it is believed that the girl was being harassed by her college friends.

Meghana attended her college on Tuesday and returned home when her parents were away at work. According to a report in The Hindu, she hanged herself in her room soon after returning home from college. Meghana’s sister reached home and found her hanging from the fan.

The report further added that according to Meghana’s parents, Meghana’s classmates alleged that she stole a mobile phone following which she was removed from her class’s WhatsApp group.

All the claims have been denied by the authorities at the university.

Meghana’s father Chandrashekhar was quoted as claiming that a group of students visited their house and fought with her. Meghana’s parents even tried to meet her class teacher to resolve the problem.
