In a tragic incident in Gurgaon, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her relative for the last two months and forced to eat a poisonous substance on Saturday night. The girl died in hospital on Sunday morning but not before giving a statement to the police in which she named the accused.

According to police, the accused is a relative of the girl’s family and had been staying with them for the last few years in Khandsa village. “The girl’s father and the accused used to drive an auto-rickshaw. On Saturday night, the accused told the girl’s parents that he was going to Naintal on a holiday and offered to take the girl with him. Since her parents trusted him, they sent her with him,” said Assistant commissioner of Police Manish Sehgal.

“The accused took her to his friend’s shop in Sector-37 where he raped her. On Sunday morning somehow she managed to return home and told her family the ‘uncle’ had taken her to a shop and raped her and also forced her to eat a poisonous substance. The family took her to the civil hospital in Gurgaon when she complained of dizziness. Her condition soon turned critical and she died,” said Sehgal.

The girl in her statement said the accused had been raping and blackmailing her for the last two months. “He had threatened to kill me so I kept quiet. He sexually assaulted me for the last two months and raped me again on Saturday,” said her statement.
“We cannot disclose the name of man as we haven’t taken his statement. We had gone to arrest the accused but on seeing us he also consumed poison.

He is now being treated in police custody at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi. He has been booked under Sections 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Sector 37 police station. The poisoning wasn't serious and he is not believed to be in any danger,” said Sehgal.
