An 11-year-old girl sleeping on a Mehrauli pavement with her family was abducted, raped, and murdered early Monday morning.
By Tuesday, Delhi Police had a cab driver in custody. He was arrested within six hours of the crime coming to light.
The child never made it back to her family. She had been asleep on a footpath when the accused took her, around 5 am. Her body was found later on the Faridabad-Gurugram road, after the arrested driver led police to the site.
Once the abduction was reported, Delhi Police deployed multiple specialised teams simultaneously. The speed of the response points to coordinated tracking rather than chance.
The accused, a cab driver, confessed after being brought in. He told investigators where he had left the body. Police recovered it from the stretch between Faridabad and Gurugram.
He has been charged with kidnapping, rape, and murder.
