Ten persons were killed while 18 others suffered injuries after a private bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Dalhousie area of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday evening, around 350 km from here.
Superintendent of Police, Chamba, Monica Bhutunguru, said the private bus fell into a gorge near Panjpulla in Banikhet area of Dalhousie subdivision at around 8 pm.
The ill-fated bus was on its way to Dalhousie in Chamba district from Pathankot in Punjab when the driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn.
Ten persons were killed on the spot while 18 others suffered injuries in the accident and they were rushed to Regional Hospital Chamba for further medical treatment.
The administration had a tough time in extracting the victims from the bus, though the locals had already started rescuing the injured, much before the authorities reached the spot.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed grief over the bus accident and directed the district administration to provide all possible help to the victims of this tragic accident.
The district administration immediately rushed to the spot to undertake relief and rescue operations and immediate relief was provided to the kin of people who lost their lives in the accident, he said.
He prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss. He said that the state government is with the affected families of this tragic incident during this hour of distress.
