Uttar Pradesh achieved a significant milestone on November 27 by achieving 1 gigawatt of solar power under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar: Free Electricity Scheme. According to officials here on Friday, this achievement marks the successful installation of solar rooftop plants on 290,000 homes in the state.

The installation of 1 gigawatt of solar power has saved approximately 4,000 acres of land, which can be used for other productive and public welfare purposes.

Officials said a subsidy of Rs 2,000 crore has been provided to the consumers by the Centre and Rs 600 crore by the State Government on the installed plants, due to which the consumers have received significant financial benefits.

In the initial phase of the scheme, only 81 vendors were registered, but their number has now increased 50-fold to 4,200 in UP.

This massive increase in vendors has accelerated the implementation of the scheme. The scheme has created approximately 50,000 jobs in various related sectors in the state, providing a strong boost to the local economy, officials claimed.
