TCS pips RIL in m-cap

Tata Group flagship Tata Consultancy Service in Wednesday’s early trade overtook Reliance Industries Limited as the most valued listed company in terms of market capitalisation. Minutes before 11 am with the market-cap at `6,15,979 crore, it surpassed RIL which stood at `6,15,023 crore.

But record of becoming first Indian company with Rs 6 trillion net worth stays with RIL. The biggest outsourcer TCS which is gaining since 1 January. On Wednesday intra-day gained 4.86 per cent at `3,254.80, while RIL was 1.87 per cent down trading at `963.10.

Otherwise, business on Dalal Street was tepid as 30-scrip Sensitive Index of Bombay Stock Exchange and 50-share Nifty of National Stock Exchange resumed on flat note. Indices switched between negative and positive terrains on account of Thursday’s expiry of F&O (futures and options) derivatives series for January which will be followed by an extended weekend.

Usual volatility associated with pre-F&O expiry trade too was subdued and indices managed to survive profit booking.

The Sensex closed at 36,161.64 (+21.66) points, up 0.06 per cent, Nifty increased 0.02 per cent to end at 11,086 (+2.30) points.

Bank Nifty closed at 27,398.55 (+ 7.95) points, up 0.03 per cent.
