BSE Sensex rose 62.97 points or 0.07% to close at 84,426.34. During the symbolic session, the benchmark hit a high of 84,665.44 and a low of 84,286.40.
Further, NSE Nifty went up by 25.45 points, or 0.10%, to close at 25,868.60, and as many as 25 Nifty stocks ended lower while 24 shares closed with gains and one remained unchanged.
Stock exchanges conducted a special Muhurat trading session from 1345 hrs to 1445 hrs. This annual tradition, seen as an auspicious event, signifies the commencement of the new Hindu calendar year Vikram Samvat 2082.
Bajaj Finserv rose the most by 1.42% followed by Axis Bank gaining 0.80%, Infosys by 0.72%, Mahindra & Mahindra by 0.60%, Tata Motors by 0.55%, Bajaj Finance by 0.53% and Tata Steel by 0.52%.
The key names on the losing side were Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, HCL Technologies, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki India, Trent Ltd, and Tata Consultancy Services.
BSE Midcap rose 0.23%, or 106.95 points, to close at 46,787.20 while the BSE SmallCap gained 0.91%, or 486.81 points, to settle at 53,842.85.
Among the sectors, Nifty Bank, PSU Bank, and Realty settled in red while Nifty Auto, Energy, Financial Services, IT, Media, Metal, Pharma, Consumer Durables, and Oil & Gas closed with marginal gains.
The trading session saw 2,213 stocks ending with gains, and 710 closing lower, while 116 remained unchanged on the NSE. 106 stocks hit a new 52-week high, while 36 dropped to their 52-week low.
