Amid negative Asian peers, domestic equity markets started Tuesday&’s trading session on a lower note.
At 9.45 am, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 98 points down at 28,536 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 35 points lower at 8,773.
However, in the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were trading higher around 0.1 per cent each.
On Monday, the Sensex had closed 24 points higher at 28,635 and the Nifty had closed 29 points up at 8,808.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Healthcare index registered the biggest gain, up 0.5 per cent, while Realty index became the top loser, down 0.6 per cent.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Dr Reddy&’s Labs (up 1.2 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (up 0.7 per cent), Cipla (up 0.6 per cent), ONGC (up 0.6 per cent) and Asian Paints (up 0.5per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Adani Ports (down 1.6 per cent), Hero Motocorp (down 1.4 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 1 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 1 per cent) and Infosys (down 0.9 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading nine paise down at 67.05 against the US Dollar.
