Following weak global cues, domestic equity markets started first trading session of the week on a lower note.
At 9.45 am on Monday, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 65 points down at 27,717 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 23 points lower at 8,550.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap index declined 0.3 per cent while Smallcap index slipped 0.1 per cent.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Auto index became the top gainer with a jump of 0.6 per cent while IT index became the top loser with a tumble of 0.3 per cent.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Tata Motors (up 3.5 per cent), Axis Bank (up 1.4 per cent), Reliance Industries (up 0.9 per cent), Tata Steel (up 0.9 per cent) and ICICI Bank (up 0.2 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Adani Ports (down 2.4 per cent), Wipro (down 1.9 per cent), TCS (down 1.8 per cent), Lupin (down 1.3 per cent) and Bajaj Auto (down 1.3 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading nine paise down at 67.15 against the US Dollar.
