Erasing previous gains amid weak Asian and European markets, domestic bourses closed Friday’s trading session on a lower note.
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 329 points down at 26,231 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended 106 points lower at 8,087.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices slumped 1.2 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively.
All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the negative zone with Consumer Durables index leading the declines, down 2.3 per cent.
On Thursday, the Sensex had closed 93 points down at 26,560 and the Nifty had ended 32 points lower at 8,193.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Bajaj Auto (up 1.3 per cent), Cipla (up 0.7 per cent), Hero Motocorp (up 0.7 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (up 0.2 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Adani Ports (down 3.6 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (down 3.6 per cent), Tata Motors (down 3.5 per cent), Asian Paints (down 3.1 per cent) and HDFC (down 2.4 per cent).
However, the Rupee was trading seven paise higher at 68.27 against the US Dollar.
