Trading in line with weak Asian peers, domestic bourses started the week in the negative zone. 
At 9.50 am on Monday, the Sensex at the BSE was trading 110 points lower at 26,637 while the Nifty at the NSE was trading 42 points down at 8,220.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices plunged by 0.5 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Consumer Durables index registered the biggest gain with a jump of 0.2 per cent while IT index became the top loser with a dip of 1.3 per cent.
On Friday the Sensex had closed 53 points higher at 26,747 and the Nifty had ended 15 points up at 8,262.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: ONGC (up 2 per cent), HDFC (up 0.8 per cent), SBI (up 0.7 per cent), Reliance Industries (up 0.7 per cent) and Sun Pharma (up 0.6 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Infosys (down 1.8 per cent), Tata Motors (down 1.5 per cent), Axis Bank (down 1.5 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 1.4 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (down 1.4 per cent).
