Extending declines for third straight session, domestic equity markets started Tuesday&’s trading session on a lower note.

At 9.45 am, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 31 points down at 27,954 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 14 points lower at 8,616.

In the broader markets, BSE Midcap index declined 0.2 per cent but Smallcap index increased 0.1 per cent.

On Monday, the Sensex had closed 91 points down at 27,986 and the Nifty had closed 38 points lower at 8,629.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, IT index registered the biggest gain with a jump of 1.1 per cent while Capital Goods index became the lead loser with a dip of 0.8 per cent.

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Infosys (up 1.4 per cent), Gail (up 1.4 per cent), TCS (up 1.2 per cent), Tata Motors (up 0.8 per cent) and Adani Ports (up 0.8 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: L&T (down 0.9 per cent), Cipla (down 0.8 per cent), ONGC (down 0.7 per cent), ITC (down 0.7 per cent) and Lupin (down 0.7 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading seven paise higher at 67.11 against the US Dollar.
