Sensex, Nifty trade flat in morning trade; metal stocks jump

Taking a respite from previous declines, domestic equity markets started Thursday’s trading session with marginal gains.

At 9.45 am, the Sensex at the BSE was trading 13 points higher at 27,541 while the Nifty at the NSE was trading six points up at 8,520.

Broader markets outperformed the front liners, BSE Midcap index gained 0.4 per cent while Smallcap index jumped 0.7 per cent.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Metal index jumped the most, up 1.5 per cent, while Oil & Gas index became the top loser, down 0.5 per cent. 

On Wednesday, the Sensex had closed 349 points down at 27,527 while the Nifty had closed 112 point lower at 8,514.

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: ICICI Bank (up 1.3 per cent), Tata Steel (up 1.2 per cent), Gail (up 1 per cent), L&T (up 0.8 per cent) and Hero Motocorp (up 0.7 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: ONGC (down 2.2 per cent), Asian Paints (down 0.7 per cent), NTPC (down 0.6 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 0.5 per cent) and Tata Motors (down 0.5 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading two paise higher at 66.69 against the US Dollar.
