Stock market staged a strong rebound on Monday recovering from Thursday’s sharp sell-off amid the election results announcement in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
At close, the Sensex was up 355.90 points or 0.46 percent at 77,269.40, and the Nifty was up 121.75 points or 0.51 percent at 24,119.30. Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices rose about 0.5% each.
Among the sectors, metal, realty, infrastructure, and pharma indices gained around 0.5–1%, while IT, media, and PSU Bank indices ended lower.
On Nifty, the top gainers were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Adani Enterprises, Eicher Motors, Reliance Industries, and Jio Financial while on the losing end were Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, and Tata Consultancy Services.
More than 180 stocks touched their 52-week high on the BSE. These included BHEL, Aster DM Health, CESC, Laurus Labs, Adani Green Energy, Aether Industries, HFCL, Schneider Infra, Bandhan Bank, Adani Ports, Adani Power, NLC India, Siemens, Kirloskar Oil, Bajaj Auto, Lloyds Metals, Aarti Industries, Vardhman Textiles, Hitachi Energy, among others.
The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms jumped to more than Rs 467 lakh crore from Rs 463 lakh crore in the previous session with the investors earned over Rs 4 lakh crore in a single session.
Bharat Heavy Electricals surged 7.5% after the company reported a sharp jump in its Q4 earnings while Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone gained 5.5%.
Indian Rupee fell 39 paise to close at an all-time low of 95.23 against the US dollar.
Vedanta Ltd shares rebounded sharply rising over 6 percent to Rs 288.75, Shares of Godrej Properties Ltd jumped as much as 6.3 percent while the Avenue Supermarts Ltd (DMart) shares fell more than 3 percent after the company reported a mixed results for Q4 FY26. Sun TV Network declined 5.5% amid the ruling party DMK setback in Tamil Nadu.
Adani Enterprises stock rose gaining as much as 3 percent intraday after its recent Q4 FY26 results.
