Amid mixed global cues, domestic stock markets closed Thursday&’s volatile trading session with marginal gains.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) ended 41 points up at 28,413 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed 16 points higher at 8,743.

On Wednesday, the Sensex had closed 19 points up at 28,372 and the Nifty had closed 11 points higher at 8,727.

Broader markets closed with mixed moves, BSE Midcap index slumped 0.3 per cent but Smallcap index gained 0.3 per cent.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, FMCG index closed with the biggest gain, up 0.7 per cent, while Consumer Durables index became the top loser with a tumble of 1 per cent. 

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Reliance Industries (up 1.6 per cent), Cipla (up 1.6 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (up 1.5 per cent), HDFC (up 1.3 per cent) and ITC (up 1.2 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Power Grid (down 2.4 per cent), Axis Bank (down 2.2 per cent), Tata Steel (down 1.8 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 1.8 per cent) and Hero Motocorp (down 1.7 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading seven paisa higher at 66.96 against the US Dollar.
