Keeping Friday&’s gains amid mixed global cues, domestic bourses started first trading session of the week on a flat note.

At 9.45 am on Monday, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 25 points higher at 28,624 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 17 points up at 8,797.

However, broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices jumped around 0.4 per cent each.

On Friday, the Sensex had closed 186 points higher at 28,599 and the Nifty had closed 37 points up at 8,780.

Among the BSE sectoral indices Oil & Gas index registered the biggest gains, up 0.5 per cent, while Capital Goods index became the top loser, down 0.2 per cent.

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: ICICI Bank (up 1.1 per cent), Coal India (up 1 per cent), ONGC (up 0.9 per cent), Gail (up 0.9 per cent) and Tata Motors (up 0.7 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Maruti Suzuki (down 0.9 per cent), Infosys (down 0.7 per cent), Axis Bank (down 0.6 per cent), HDFC (down 0.6 per cent) and Adani Ports (down 0.6 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading four paise higher at 66.94 against the US Dollar.
