Extending gains for fourth-straight session amid positive domestic and global cues, Indian equity markets closed Wednesday’s trading session in the positive zone. 
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 259 points higher at 26,653 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended 82 points up at 8,225.
Broader markets again outperformed the benchmark indices, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices jumped 1.1 per cent and 1.3 per cent respectively.
All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive zone with Consumer Durables index leading the gains, up 2.5 per cent. 
On Tuesday, the Sensex had closed 44 points up at 26,394 and the Nifty had ended 15 points higher at 8,142. 
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: ICICI Bank (up 3.5 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (up 3.5 per cent), L&T (up 2.1 per cent), SBI (up 1.8 per cent) and HDFC Bank (up 1.7 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Lupin (down 1.2 per cent), Gail (down 1.2 per cent), Cipla (down 0.7 per cent), Reliance Industries (down 0.5 per cent) and Tata Motors (down 0.2 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading 16 paise higher at 68.49 against the US Dollar.
