Amid value buying, domestic equity markets started Thursday&’s trading session on a positive note.
At 9.50 am, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 54 points higher at 28,427 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 17 points up at 8,744.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap gained 0.2 per cent and Smallcap index surged over 0.6 per cent.
On Wednesday, the Sensex had closed 19 points higher at 28,372 and the Nifty had closed 11 points up at 8,727.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Healthcare index became the top gainer with a jump of 1.1 per cent while IT index registered the biggest decline with a cut of 0.2 per cent.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Cipla (up 2.2 per cent), Adani Ports (up 1.7 per cent), Gail (up 1.4 per cent), ITC (up 1.4 per cent) and Sun Pharma (up 1.3 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Hero Motocorp (down 1.5 per cent), Axis Bank (down 1.2 per cent), Infosys (down 0.7 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 0.7 per cent) and Power Grid (down 0.6 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading five paise higher at 66.84 against the US Dollar.
