Extending Tuesday&’s sharp jumps, domestic equity markets closed Wednesday&’s trading session on a higher note.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) ended 109 points higher at 28,452 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed 42 points up at 8,786.

After opening at 28,452, the Sensex touched 28,532 mark on the positive side while it touched 28,363 mark on the negative side, in the intraday trade.

On Tuesday, the Sensex had closed 440 points higher at 28,303 and the Nifty had closed 134 points up at 8,744.

In the broader markets, BSE Midcap index jumped 0.4 per cent while Smallcap index rose 0.2 per cent.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Capital Goods index closed with the biggest gain, up 1.4 per cent, while Metal index became the top loser with a tumble of 1.4 per cent. 

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: L&T (up 2.7 per cent), Hero Motocorp (up 2.1 per cent), Tata Motors (up 1.7 per cent), HDFC Bank (up 1.5 per cent), and Asian Paints (up 1.1 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Tata Steel (down 2 per cent), ONGC (down 1.9 per cent), Lupin (down 1.7 per cent), NTPC (down 1.6 per cent) and TCS (down 1.4 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading three paise higher at 66.99 against the US Dollar.
