Following weak global cues, domestic equity markets gave up
Thursday’s gains and started Friday’s trading session in the negative zone.
At 9.50 am, the Sensex at the BSE was trading 341 points
down at 27,176 while the Nifty at the NSE was trading 114 points lower at 8,412.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices slumped 2.2 per cent and 1.6 per cent respectively.
All the BSE sectoral indices, except Healthcare index, were
trading in the red zone with Realty index leading the declines, Down 3.8 per
cent. Healthcare index gained 0.2 per cent.
On Thursday, the Sensex had closed 265 points higher at 27,518
while the Nifty had closed 94 point up at 8,526.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Sun Pharma (up 5.4 per
cent) and SB (up 0.8 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Asian Paints (down 3.8
per cent), HDFC (down 3.2 per cent), Tata Motors (down 3.1 per cent), Gail (down
2.7 per cent) and Hero Motocorp (down 2.6 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading 43 paise down 67.06 against
the US Dollar.
