Amid week global cues, domestic equity markets started the week on a lower note.

At 9.45 am on Monday, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 130 points down at 28,538 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 42 points lower at 8,790.

However, in the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were trading flat with positive bias.

On Friday, the Sensex had closed 105 points lower at 28,668 and the Nifty had closed 90 points down at 8,832.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Metal index registered the biggest gain, up 0.3 per cent, while Bankex index became the top losers, down 0.9 per cent. 

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Reliance Industries (up 1.6 per cent), Power Grid (up 0.9 per cent), Dr Reddy&’s Labs (up 0.8 per cent), TCS (up 0.7 per cent) and Tata Steel (up 0.6 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: ICICI Bank (down 1.8 per cent), HDFC (down 1.2 per cent), Gail (down 1.1 per cent), ITC (down 1.1 per cent) and Tata Motors (down 1 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading nine paise down at 66.74 against the US Dollar.
